Concurrently AI might challenge the status quo of regulations as they are, and AI will influence laws’ development, and thus will have further impact on the society. Hence, the interaction and translation between AIs and the legal norms and ethical principles constituting the basis of our society is of utmost importance, and will be explored during this lecture. Recent fields of research and discussion, amongst it autonomous driving, will be used as reference fields for the legal preconditions and challenges from the perspective of criminal law, legal philosophy and ethics to, and by digitalization."

After completing Cultural Memory and Social Change course students will be familiar with concepts of cultural memory, understand how cultural memory works, know how cultural memory and social change can be studied and be able to identify examples of cultural memory and social change. The questions of cultural memory and social change are critical today as we witness the return of war and tragedy on European soil. Cultural narratives shape social reality and they can be used as a weapon in moulding public opinion. Competing narratives also play a central role in other major global crises of our times, such as the pandemic and ecological crisis."

As a result, the ability to handle data securely and critically is becoming an important qualification, not only for science or the world of work, but also for social participation and is therefore one of the so-called ‘future skills’. Handling data does not always refer to actively working with data yourself (e.g. in scientific or professional contexts) but also to critically scrutinising data applications and their possible consequences as well as assessing developments in society as a whole. This also requires a good basic knowledge of the topic. This asynchronous online course offers all interested parties an overview of important aspects of handling data. We will look at the possibilities and limitations as well as possible risks when working with data. In addition to technical and methodological questions on collecting, managing, analysing and interpreting data, reflection from a legal, ethical and social perspective is also an important focus.\n\nAre you interested in the topic and would like to improve your data skills? Then sign up for the course. You don't need any special prior knowledge; students from all departments and semesters are welcome.\nAre you interested in the topic and would like to improve your data skills? Then sign up for the course. You don't need any special prior knowledge; students from all departments and semesters are welcome.\n\nThe online course consists of 8 chapters, each of which deals with a specific field of activity when working with data and provides an introduction to basic aspects of handling data. The practical exercises also offer the opportunity to gain initial experience with basic techniques. The order and pace of the exercises can be chosen by the participants themselves (asynchronous event).\n\nThe course starts with a kick-off event on 15 April 2025 at 4 pm (online), in which we will look at the basics of data literacy and its importance in our society. The kick-off event can also be attended as an individual lecture independently of the certificate programme.\n\nThe course is part of the first stage of the DaLiJe (Data Literacy Jena) certificate programme. Upon successful completion of the online course and participation in 3 hands-on sessions, the certificate for the first level of the programme (‘Awareness’) can be acquired. The topics of the hands-on sessions can be found on our website: dataliteracy.uni-jena.de. The dates of the individual sessions will be coordinated with the participants of the course and later announced outside the course via our website."

Language is surprisingly dynamic and especially in the last decennia our way of communication has been influenced by rapid developments of new communication channels. WhatsApp, Discord, WeChat, Twitter/X, Snapchat, Facebook, and a growing list of other applications are affecting the way we communicate with each other, generally in a much more informal way than in the past. This inevitably clashes with more traditional, \"academic\" styles that are still required for publications, grant writing, and professional communication on important matters. The course tries to point out these areas of \"friction\".\nA secondary aim of the course, in response to the requests of students, is the discussion of effective techniques to plan, study, and prepare for exams and other important events. The lectures will present lots of links to valuable information online, often with convenient QR codes presented. This course will hopefully help the students coming from all over the world to make a good start with their new life in Pavia at University studying an incredible course in medicine."
